The 'Alaskan Malamute' Dog House

Bob & Joanne would like to welcome you to the
Alaskan Malamute Extreme Web Site

We have been interested in the Alaskan Malamutes for some time now. The bug started when some friends of ours aquired two Siberian Huskies and they asked if we knew where they could get a rig made for their dogs to pull. We knew of a guy who was a Blacksmith and he made them out of two BMX bikes for the price of £50, but sadly they never really got to use it. It wasn’t long before we asked our friends if we could have the rig back that was built for their Huskies and they were only too pleased to see it put to good use.

All our Alaskan Malamutes work in harness. Being a competitive family we are not really interested in showing our Malamutes but we like to exercise our dogs in what they were bred for. When we first started out, help and advice was hard to find but this did not deter us, we had a vision and that vision was to go ‘Mushing’ and be pulled by a team of Alaskan Malamutes.

Our vision is now reality, there is nothing like it, the adrenelin rush is awesome. We’ve now had our team of Alaskan Malamutes up to nearly 20mph and it is a real white knuckle ride and to have the ability to communicate with your Malamutes shouting out the commands and weaving in and out of obstacles is something else. When we first started out it was definitely a learning curve, we learnt the hard way with many cuts and bruises along the way. This type of sport is definitely not for the faint hearted. Like any sport, to achieve your goals you have to treat your sport seriously and with respect.

Alaskan Malamute Van

Our Alaskan Malamutes team travel around in a Transit Van especially designed inside for the transportation of the Malamutes and equipment, harnesses, ganglines, snublines, three wheeler rig and our two custom imported cross country scooters.

Any breeding we do is always carefully planned and with the utmost respect and care for our Malamutes and the puppies they produce. We have only had four litters in the past seven years, all have produced the most beautiful, pedigree puppies, that have all gone to the loving homes of owners that have been carefully vetted by us personally. We do plan more so please check out the Alaskan Malamute Puppy 'Availability' page for current or upcoming Malamute litters.

So what do we look for when Breeding Alaskan Malamutes, we look for good temperament, big bones, nice thick coats and size. Since hooking up with Steph & Mick Dean in Blackburn of Teikota Mals, we have acquired the blood lines that we were looking and striving for. Within the Malamute world there is nothing that Steph doesn't know about the Alaskan Malamute breed, especially when it comes to the different blood lines in the UK. We really appreciate and thank them for all the help, advice and support they have given us over the years. We prefer the American and Canadian Malamutes as they seem to be a lot bigger in size and bone structure than the European bred Malamutes. My boys are coming out at 30-32" at the shoulder, you have to remember that the Alaskan Malamute is a giant breed and not a Husky as commonly mistaken by the general public, who normally think they are stroking a Husky as apposed to a Malamute. We always explain the difference that an Alaskan Malamute comes from Alaska USA and the Husky derives from Siberia, simple.

So if some one tries to sell you an Alaskan Malamute with Blue eyes, stay away from it, Malamutes don't have Blue eyes. There is a lot of cross breeding going on at the moment i.e. Husky with Malamute (Huskamute), people are only doing this because their paper work for their dogs have been endorsed, so they produce a cheaper version by this cross breeding method. I am afraid a lot of these cross breeds end up in the RSPCA or other animal shelters, purely because the new owners made ill-informed decisions when homing these dogs, not knowing what they were letting themselves in for and just not being able to control them. If you work them in a team then maybe they can sometimes be okay but as for just a family pet, well you can encounter all kinds of problems, such as being very destructive and disobedient behaviour.

We have Malamutes that can be very responsive if you check out our 'You Tube' clips on our 'videos page' you will see that we let all our Malamutes go for a run off the lead, but not in a public place. We love to have our Malamutes around us and not stuck in a kennel 24/7, so if you ever come to visit us and our Malamutes, please wear a track suit or something casual because our Mals love the attention and they all want the first cuddle, but don't worry they soon calm down.

Having represented our country in the martial art world and winning many world and international titles along the way my wife and I, we both know what it takes to be disciplined and to work hard to get results.

Like the martial arts world the Alaskan Malamutes world has its politics which is why in martial arts I have my own federation ‘Guan Yu – International Academy of Martial Arts’ and it works well. www.guanyu.co.uk

So why this web site –
Hopefully to help others on their path of Alaskan Malamute mushing with any problems they may occur or come across.

Invite –
I would like to take this opportunity to invite anyone who thinks they might have a passion for mushing and perhaps like to have a go. If you live near the Hertfordshire area then give us a call on 01707 271213 or email info@malamuteextreme.com and lets get together or if you have a team of Alaskan Malamutes and a rig it would be great to hear from you and maybe we can train together.

All the best Bob & Joanne
